Crime Stoppers is a community involvement program to help stop crime in its tracks. Crime Stoppers' reason for existing is to gather the clues that law enforcement agencies need to solve major crimes, by offering cash rewards and providing a single number to call with each information relating to any crime or criminal activity. Crime Stoppers encourages local citizens to provide tips and clues that can be vital in the successful solution of crimes. Crime Stoppers programs have been highly successful in reducing the crime rate in more than one thousand cities all over the free world.

Crime Stoppers of Baton Rouge is modeled along the lines successfully used by many other Crime Stoppers programs across the country. It was formed with the help and guidance of local businessmen, the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, the Baton Rouge Police Department, and citizens from throughout the community as a means of increasing the effectiveness of local law enforcement agencies in fighting and preventing crime in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Any individual with knowledge of a felony crime can call (225) 344-STOP (344-7867) or 1 (877) 723-STOP to relay their tips, clues, or other information. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous may do so, and their information will be identified by a code number only.

If the information given to Crime Stoppers leads to an arrest and indictment (or the filing of a Bill of Information), then a cash reward of up to $1,000 is awarded to the citizen.
